Benjamin Tettmar Enjoys His First Sailing Trip

Of course it didn’t take us long to introduce young Benjamin to Csardas - and as you can tell from the picture (right) he was totally fascinated and just couldn’t have enjoyed it more!!

Marcus, myself and Ben were getting so cheesed off with the hot humid weather in Shaftesbury - which was sending us stir crazy - that we decided to go to the boat and cool off.

On wednesday we took off and spent a much cooler, more enjoyable night on the boat with a nice breeze making it easier for Ben to sleep. He slept well in the forecabin in his moses basket and although it was quite “interesting” trying to get up out of the bunk for the night time feeds it was not impossible.

The next day we decided to go for a sail and dropped anchor at Studland Bay. The wind was blowing a healthy 10 - 14 knots and so we got a good sail out of Poole and into the Bay.

Marcus had wedged Bens crib in the saloon bunk with the lea cloth tied up and amazingly Ben slept through the boat healing over in the gusts - even when the boat rounded up (ok it happened only once!). I was a bit anxious at first and I kept having to go and check on him but after a while I stopped being so concerned because Ben clearly wasn’t and he was nice and snug down below.

When we were anchored in the bay we chilled out for several hours, had lunch and drank some non alcoholic beer (much more advisable for a breastfeeding mum).

It was fairly breezy even in the shelter of the anchorage but the hot sun made it a pleasant stop. We put the parasol up so I could feed Ben in the shade and when he was down for a nap Marcus, vassy and I went for a little dip in the sea! Water temp 21 degrees!

We got back into Poole to catch the 1630 bridge back into the marina and headed to Jenny & John’s in Bournemouth for a delicious lasagne dinner.

Who said that having a baby would stop us doing the things we love!
